Total Eclipse: Aug 21

Posted on Apr 14 2017 - 12:41pm

Did you know...on Monday, August 21, over 100 million US residents will be in the path of a total solar eclipse for the first time since 1918? And the "path of totality," as it's called, is a 60-mi wide swath that will cut through most of TN, SC, and a teeny slice of GA this year. The next eclipse that will be this close will be in Florida in 2045. Several Boy Scout and Girl Scout groups - and families - are taking advantage of the close proximity of this rare event. (Girl Scouts has even already made a commemorative patch!)

Discounted tickets will be available, and a portion of each ticket goes back to support our local Scouting program. Be sure to arrive early to take part in the Scout Parade around the field and be the first of your friends to experience SunTrust Park from the players' point-of-view!

Tour and Activity Plan Terminated

Posted on Apr 6 2017 - 11:38am

Have you heard? Effective April 1, 2017, filing the online Tour and Activity Plan process is no longer necessary.

Yes, you are still expected to review and follow the Guide to Safe Scouting, Sweet 16 of Safety, and all other BSA safety and risk management guidelines. Yes, official Scouting activities will still be covered by BSA insurance (Registered volunteers are provided primary general liability insurance coverage for official scouting activities; secondary insurance coverage for vehicle operation - review all details on the BSA website). And, yes, as we covered at a recent Roundtable, there is still no such thing as a Class "A" uniform requirement in order to be covered by BSA supplemental insurance!
