The Atlanta Area Council is proud to host the 2015 National Meeting of the Boy Scouts of America!

Over 2,000 Scouters from across the country will come together in Atlanta to enjoy some southern hospitality and strengthen our movement.

It all kicks off with the National Annual Meeting Welcome Reception and Annual Gathering of Eagles.

Join Gathering of Eagles Chairman Clay Courts and committee as we host local Scouting heroes, national guests, and Atlanta area business leaders for a reception with drinks and light dining at the stunning Marriott Marquis in downtown Atlanta.

We hope you’ll join us on May 19th to reconnect with your fellow Eagles and share in the celebration.

National Meeting Volunteer Opportunity!

Below is the link for Scouters to register to volunteer for the National Meeting, May 20-22.  The Council needs a total of 140 volunteers.

There will have a kick- off volunteer rally for the registered volunteers on April 15.

Effective March 1, 2015, National issued new adult and youth membership applications. Please check your work areas, home stock, etc. and bring in any old applications to the Program Center for destruction, or destroy them yourselves.

For more than 100 years, Boy Scouts have enjoyed the support of religious organizations. Together, we have enriched the spiritual lives of local youth - each of whom strives from the perspective of their own beliefs to live up to the Scout Oath and Law.

Celebrate this partnership between Scouting and our religious partners by taking part in a Scout Sunday or Scout Sabbath celebration at your place of worship.  Scout Sunday and Scout Sabbath offer worshipers the opportunity to honor Scouting, and learn more about the value Scouting provides to the young people of their congregation. Now is the time to talk with the leader of your place of worship about holding a Scout Sunday on February 8, 2015 or a Scout Sabbath on February 14, 2015 - or any other time in the month of February.

     Another Klondike Derby complete.  By all accounts the weekend was successful and the activities were well received.  The weather was not very Klondike-like, but was fantastic nonetheless.  Troop 608 led us in the opening flag ceremony Saturday morning.
     A huge thank you goes to all the Patrols that came out and participated.  There were 15 Patrols from nine Troops competing for gold on Saturday.  The campfire featured skits from eight Troops and awards from all of the Town Mayors.
     Sunday morning brought a little cloud cover for the running of the sled race. This year’s race was won by the Troop 827 Carnivorous Pandas – Congratulations guys!  Just prior to the race, Troop 419 led the interfaith worship service.
     The top three Patrols, overall, for the Saturday gold rush activities were:  3rd place - Troop 650 Prospectors; 2nd place - Troop 846 Woodsmen and 1st place - Troop 650 Huskies. Congratulations to each of these Troops and Patrols.
     We added a new item to this year’s campout by offering a camp wide spaghetti dinner in the dining hall Saturday night.  The feedback from all that participated has been very positive and some have mentioned they liked the opportunity to fellowship with Scouts and leaders from other Troops in our District.
     There was a lot of preparation work leading up to the dinner and I would like to recognize and thank a few people for their efforts and dedication to help make the dinner (and weekend) a success: Connie Fisher, Tonie Owens, Lisa Rood, Chiquita Banks, Jim Fisher, Sean Roche, Austin McGee, Mark Owens, Mac McGee, Doc Sandlin and Earl Owens.  Each of these folks was on site for the weekend and most took on extra duties in preparation for the events and dinner.  Behind the scenes, I would like to tip my hat to Sharman Sykes for doing a lot of the shopping for us and to Terry Roche and Fran McGee for helping with the food preparation.  This would not have been possible without their support and cooperation - my heartfelt thanks to all of you.
     Also, birthday congratulations and a thank you to Geoffrey Mount (Troop 827’s newest adult) on turning 18 and for being the Master of Ceremonies for the campfire.
     Last, but not least, thanks also to the unit leaders that staffed the towns, especially Troop 846 and Steven Webster and Glenn Halliday for taking on a Town for the first time.  The town mayors and staff are what make it so the Scouts can come out to compete and have fun.
