From the District Chair - District Happenings

Posted on Feb 8 2013 - 5:47am

Button Gwinnett Scouters,

I hope all of you are doing well! February has arrived and a lot of activities have been going on and are planned.

On January 25th, our Golden Eagle Committee, chaired by Marsha Anderson Bomar, hosted a very successful Golden Eagle Breakfast at the 1818 Club. The breakfast is a way to bring local business and community leaders together to support our Friends of Scouting fundraising campaign. This year, our breakfast honored Mark Tyrrell. Mark has been a past Scouter, and as the proprietor of Tapp Lumber has supported countless numbers of Scouts by donating lumber and supplies for their Eagle Scout projects. We're so fortunate to have someone like Mark in our community! In addition to Marsha, I want to personally thank the rest of the Golden Eagle Committee for their dedication and leadership:

Join Us for Scouting for Food Kickoff at the January Roundtable

Posted on Jan 11 2013 - 2:54am

I am excited to announce that January's Roundtable will be the official Kick-off for the 2013 Scouting for Food Drive in the Button Gwinnett District!

Scouting for Food is the annual coordinated service project of the Atlanta Area Council.  Started in St. Louis as an Eagle Scout service project in 1985, Scouting for Food has grown to become one of the largest canned food drives in America. Scouting for Food makes a huge impact in our communities, and teaches our Scouts valuable life lesson on service and giving.

Please make sure your unit has a representative at this month's Roundtable to get signed-up and all of this year's information. Roundtable is Tuesday, January, 15th, 2013, at 7:30PM at Christ Church Episcopal (400 Holcomb Bridge Road, Norcross, GA 30071).

From the New District Chair - Happy New Year!

Posted on Jan 11 2013 - 2:45am

Fellow Button Gwinnett Scouters and Parents,

Happy New Year! I hope all of you had a wonderful Holiday season with your friends and loved ones.

During the December district business meeting, Mark Grams completed three years as District Chair and a need was created to fill the role. Thank you Mark for your three years of dedicated service to the district.

I have the honor to succeed Mark and serve you as the Button Gwinnett District Chair for 2013.

In succeeding Mark as the District Chair, my job will be to work with our District Commissioner, Jim Gilpatrick, and our District Executive, George Snipes to support our units and ensure that our youth members get the best possible Scouting experience in a safe environment.
