Wood Badge is the premier leadership training course for Scouters!  It is based on the best of a century of Scouting experience and draws on the most current leadership models used by corporate America, academic circles, and successful outdoor leadership organizations throughout the country.  The skills you will learn are applicable not only to Scouting, but will benefit your personal and professional life as well. (Attached is a letter for your employer that may be useful in gaining their support.)

Note that this is not Scout skills or program specific training like other courses you may have taken. Rather, Wood Badge aims to instill relevant management and leadership skills in leaders from all programs—that is, Cub, Boy, Varsity, and Venturing.

The course consists of two parts, the learning portion and the action portion. You will complete the learning portion over six days spread over two 3-day weekends. During this portion, you will develop a vision and five SMART goals that directly relate to your position in Scouting. The action portion, then, is the process of completing your five goals to reach your vision. Afterwards, you will have successfully completed your Wood Badge requirements and earned your beads.

Completing Wood Badge training sets the example for youth and adult leaders you work with and reinforces the importance of self-development and completing goals. The fee for the course is $210 and includes food for the first weekend, a course hat, activity shirt, instructional materials and Wood Badge regalia upon Ticket completion.

Button Gwinnett Scouters ,

I was fortunate to speak to many of you a few weeks ago at our, Annual District Awards & Recognition Banquet.

For those of you who were not able to attend, I addressed the group, providing my vision for Button Gwinnett District. I'd like to share these thoughts with you.

2013 Button Gwinnett Klondike Derby Final Results

Posted on Feb 8 2013 - 5:47am

2013 Button Gwinnett Klondike Derbey - Feb. 1-3, 2013
The thirteenth Klondike Derby is in the history books and fun was had by all.  It was a true Klondike experience with the cold weather and the snow.  The patrols were very competitive in demonstrating their Scout skills.  A big thank you to all of the town mayors, the event would not be what it is without your dedication.  The Scouts are very fortunate to have volunteers like each of you.

Third place was awarded to the Phoenix patrol from troop 827, second place was awarded to the Dukes of Hazard patrol from troop 650 and the grand prize, first place was awarded to troop 650, Huskies patrol.  The race on Sunday was cancelled due to the inclement weather.

As with the original Klondike Gold Rush, there were some heroes at this year’s event.  A big thank you goes out to the health lodge staff of Tricia Gallagher, Tonie Owens and Connie Fisher.  These ladies went above and beyond the call of duty in taking care of cold Scouts.  The health lodge provided warmth, hot chocolate and moral support for the many cold Scouts that visited.  Please tell them thank you when you see them.
