Annoucing our new Program Chair - Tom Owens

Button Gwinnett Scouters -

I hope all of you are doing well and that you had a great Labor Day holiday.
For those of you who were not able to attend our Quarterly District Conference on Tuesday night, I was thrilled to announce that Tom Owens recently was offered and accepted the position of Program Chair for our district.
Many of you know Tom even better than me. His experience and credentials are exemplary: (1) serving Troop 419 in numerous capacities (most recently as Scoutmaster), (2) his affiliation with the Order of the Arrow as a Vigil Honor member and as the coach for our Chapter's Brotherhood ceremony team, and (3) his experiences as both a participant and staff member for Wood Badge.
However, impressive as his credentials and experiences are, the most important quality that led me to seek out Tom for this role is his passion and selfless dedication for making an impact in the lives of our youth. These traits are evident in the quality of fine young men who have had the honor of crossing his path along the way to adulthood... especially evident in the two sons that Tom and Tonie have raised (John and Mark).
Speaking of Tonie, I would be remiss if I didn't thank her for allowing Tom to take this role. All of our spouses make a large commitment as well as personal sacrifices when they allow us to spend a portion of our personal time dedicated to Scouting. Thank you so much Tonie.
Tom has reached out to our committee chairs who will be serving under him in the program function. He'll start to work with them on current projects as well as future goals. I'm excited about what's in store for us!
If you haven't congratulated Tom yet, take a moment to send your well wishes and thank him for taking on this very important leadership role. I'm looking forward to serving with Tom and being a beneficiary of his leadership.
Yours in Scouting,
Terry Walls
Chairman - Button Gwinnett District
