Online Venture Leader Training Available

Posted on Mar 7 2016 - 2:09pm

On Wednesday the BSA activated new on-line Venturing Position Specific training at BSA LearnCenter. If you log-in to your my.scouting.org account, then you can access Venturing training by clicking on the Position Specific Training button on the right side if the page or follow this link - http://bsalearn.learn.taleo.net/Members. You can also access the training center through the "My Dashboard" feature at my.scouting.org.

Now Crew Advisors, Assistant Advisors, Committee Chairs and Committee Members can either attend the face training or complete the modules on-line to be considered "trained" by the BSA. I think the on-line training offers a great opportunity to significantly increase the number of trained Venturing Leaders.

The Boy Scouts of America designates the Sunday that falls before February 8 (Scouting Anniversary Day) as Scout Sunday, which is the primary date to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. However, each chartered organization can celebrate on the Sunday most acceptable to the pastor and congregation.  If your unit would like to learn more or order flyers to distribute on Scout Sunday at your church, please visit http://www.atlantabsa.org/Event/scout-sunday/1682907

2016 Klondike Derby recap

Posted on Feb 12 2016 - 2:43am

The 2016 Klondike Derby was held this past weekend at Woodruff Scout Camp.  The weather was just cold enough to give everyone a winter reminder, but warmed up for the daytime activities.  A special thank you goes out to Troop 525 for conducting the opening and closing flag ceremonies and to Troop 608 for leading Sunday morning’s Scouts Own Interfaith Worship service.
It was great to see all the Patrols come out and participate.  There were 16 Patrols from nine Troops competing for gold on Saturday.  The campfire featured skits from four Troops and awards from all of the Town Mayors.
Sunday morning’s sled race was won by the Troop 525 Moo Kill Patrol  – Congratulations guys!
The top three Patrols, overall, for the Saturday gold rush activities were:  3rd place - Troop 419 Spartoose; 2nd place - Troop 650 Flaming Arrows and 1st place - Troop 846 Woodsmen. Congratulations to each of these Troops and Patrols.
