SPRING CAMPOREE
Well the Spring Camporee is in the bag. For those of you who are
veterans of this annual Spring event, you surely noticed that
this year was the first in just about anyone's memory where we
did not have any severe weather or were under the threat of
severe weather. We sort of did not know what to do with
ourselves by not having to check the weather every 15 minutes so
we could make a decision on whether to keep on camping or call
it off. We have never called off a Camporee, but will continue
to make decisions with the advice of the Ranger.
This years attendance was down a bit from previous years with
about 170 in attendance. 125 Scouts along with 45 leaders
enjoyed the various activities put together by the TQB Order of
the Arrow Chapter. The Tap out was very impressive and well
attended with only 5 elected scouts and scouters not showing up
for the event. The 2 Ordeals are in May and candidates have the
information and can decide which ordeal best fits their
schedules.
The Annual "Fried Egg" contest was another success. This was the
third year for this fire building competition. The first year
saw the event take 25 minutes to build a fire and cook an egg.
Last year this time was cut to about 18 minutes. This year,
troop 26 won the event for the second consecutive year with a
time of about 12 minutes. All of you other troops need to
practice this "lost" art and be in a position to give 26 a run
for their money next year. The rotating trophy will be engraved
and presented at the next Roundtable.
Now for the winners:
First Place Troop 650
Second Place Troop 419
Third Place Troop 648
